In 2006, Brant Webb and his colleague Todd Russell experienced a life-altering event when they were trapped underground for 14 long days after a mine collapse in Beaconsfield, Tasmania. During their harrowing ordeal, they found solace and inspiration in the music of Foo Fighters, requesting it to lift their spirits.
Upon hearing this story, Foo Fighters' frontman Dave Grohl made a promise - a promise of beer and concert tickets once they were safely rescued. And last night, that promise was fulfilled.
Grohl shared with the crowd, "They asked for water and an iPod with Foo Fighters music. It was a profound moment for me, it really hit home." As he spoke, the stage lights dimmed, and there stood Brant Webb, reuniting with Grohl in a heartwarming embrace.
The crowd erupted with joy, with one fan exclaiming, "That's so adorable!" Another added, "This moment is truly special!"
But here's where it gets controversial... The concert, attended by 26,000 fans, was a success, with Tasmania Police praising the crowd's good behavior. However, they did respond to a few public order incidents, including minor altercations and intoxication. Ten people were removed from the venue, and two were arrested for assault. Police also conducted wand searches to ensure safety, with no weapons detected.
And this is the part most people miss... The state government and Launceston City Council invested $650,000 to bring this one-off show to life, selling out in record time. It marked Foo Fighters' first performance in Tasmania since 2015 and their inaugural concert in Launceston.
