Max Vohland and Hunter Yoder, ClubMX Yamaha teammates, are making waves in the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross West Division. Vohland, despite learning a hand brake and arm pump, led laps in Houston, a significant achievement. Yoder, riding through an ACL injury, is outperforming his 2025 results. Their strong starts are a testament to the team's quality and hard work with Director of Performance, Chad Reed. Steve Matthes interviewed both riders post-Houston to discuss their season progress.
Racer X: Max Vohland, your stellar starts tonight are impressive. You led laps and finished fourth overall.
Vohland: Absolutely! It was a great night for me. I had three amazing starts, which boosted my confidence and allowed me to ride up front. I haven't done that in a while.
Reedy mentioned this was your first time leading laps in supercross. How do you feel about that?
Vohland: Maybe during my rookie year at Pala. But it's been a while since I've led laps in a race. So, this was definitely a first for me in supercross. It's a tough class, but I rode some of my best, and these guys are fast.
The track presented unique challenges. How did you navigate it?
Vohland: It was a freight train track, and the over-the-table section was tricky. I felt good in my corners but struggled with the last main event. The track had a lowered lip, and I missed the rhythm a few times. It's a learning curve, and I'm pushing my limits.
Hunter Yoder, your starts were also strong. You wanted fifth overall.
Yoder: Yes, we're aiming for top five. Last year, I wanted top 10, but now we're building and improving.
Your riding and fitness are impressive. You've made significant progress.
Yoder: Absolutely! I've been catching up with some factory riders. I had a crash in the second heat, which cost me a solid sixth place. My starts were terrible, but I stayed strong and in the race. Last year, I'd finish 13th or 14th if I started back. Now, we're aiming for top fives.
The team's hard work is evident. How do you feel about the pressure of performing?
Yoder: I don't feel pressure; it's a privilege. I'm happy to be on this team and ride dirt bikes for a living. I put pressure on myself, but the gains I've made are rewarding. I'm grateful for the opportunity and don't feel the pressure of others' expectations.
